Once He’s Gone… What Then?
We won’t save democracy just by watching the villain leave the stage. What comes next is up to all of us.
When the Mango Mussolini era finally ends—whether by election, indictment, or inevitability—it won’t be the end of the story.
Not even close.
The truth is, we’ve spent years treating his departure as the finish line, when really, it’s just the beginning of a much more complicated chapter: the one where we figure out how to rebuild a nation torn apart by lies, corruption, and cult-like devotion.
And that leads us to the question no one seems to have a good answer for:
What happens next?
The Cult Doesn’t Vanish When the Cult Leader Does
Let’s not kid ourselves. When 47 leaves the spotlight, his most die-hard followers won’t suddenly snap out of it.
They’ve been conditioned—by media echo chambers, conspiracy theories, and years of grievance politics—to believe they’re soldiers in a righteous war. And when their Orange Messiah disappears, they won’t quietly return to everyday life. Many will go deeper into paranoia, rage, and radicalization.
We need to stop thinking of Dementia Don as the disease. He’s the symptom. The real illness is what allowed him to rise in the first place—a broken system that rewards division, disinformation, and fear.
Since 2016, It’s Felt Like Reality Cracked
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:The world hasn’t felt right since David Bowie left this plane of existence.
When the Starman checked out in 2016, it felt like a cosmic shift—like the universe lost its rhythm, and everything started to spiral.
Since then, we’ve seen truth lose its footing, empathy be treated as weakness, and science get pushed aside by superstition.
The chaos wasn’t just political—it was existential.
We Can’t Go Back. So How Do We Move Forward?
Let’s be real: there’s no going back to “normal.”
Normal is gone.
But maybe that’s not such a bad thing—because “normal” still left too many people behind.
The challenge now is figuring out how to move forward in peace, especially with people we once considered friends, neighbors, even family—those who’ve been swept up in a movement that no longer believes in facts, fairness, or the future.
We need to find a way to restore stolen rights—to vote freely, to access healthcare, to live without fear of violence, to speak truth without being drowned out by rage and bots.
We need to stop the J.D. Vances of the world, who cloak their ambition in faux populism while helping dismantle democracy brick by brick. And we need to understand that America has enemies who are playing the long game, LIKE RUSSIA—and MAGA, whether they realize it or not, is handing them the blueprint for our collapse.
Our Government Isn’t Going to Save Us
This part is painful, but necessary to say:
Most of our elected officials have failed us.
They’ve shown us time and time again that their loyalty lies not with the people, but with their portfolios. They’re protecting their power, not our rights. And while they posture and stall, democracy continues to bleed out.
We don’t have the luxury of waiting for them to suddenly grow spines.
So, What Is the Path Forward?
That’s the question. It’s not rhetorical. It’s urgent.
How do we stop the cycle?
How do we rebuild trust and truth?
How do we protect a country that’s been sabotaged from within?
It won’t come from a savior.
It won’t come from a party.
It will only come from us.
Ordinary people. Angry. Awake. Determined.
We need bold vision, unshakable courage, and relentless hope.
We need to show up, speak out, and organize—not just for elections, but for a future worth believing in.
The villain may exit the stage. But the real battle begins the moment the curtain falls.

This is powerful and so well written (and true!)
What are some of the fighting you suggest, at least to start with.
Sharing this post. It’s so important. xoxo
Unity is important – and the peaceful protests have proven that.
Sadly, we have to start replacing reps in power starting at a local level, then moving up to state and national, before anything is rebuilt. Our foundation has to be secure or this chaos is just going to keep resurfacing like weeds in a beautiful garden! Candidates should have to take a citizenship/civil service exam – if mail carriers do, then why not elected officials to prove they are competent enough to handle the massive responsibility?!
Also, the education system has to be restored from the ground up, and fully funded, along with teachers receiving salaries worthy of their dedication and work.
There’s so many moving parts to consider and discuss, and it’s so exhaustive to list, so I’ll start with these two. 🙂
Thank you for sharing. I feel like everyone thinks once “he’s gone” it’ll be sunshine and daises, but it is only then that the REAL work begins!
