Smash The Patriarchy!

Smash The Patriarchy!

I can’t believe it is almost 2025 and women are STILL having to fight for our fundamental rights and body autonomy!

Sadly, in these modern times, this crop of Conservative Republican’ts (AKA MAGAts) wants to turn back the clock on not only women’s rights but all minorities (queue the mass deportations), including the LGBTQ+ community.

White Supremacist groups have seen a rise in members and public activities as well as alternative militia groups since 2015. The Fanta Fascist’s past administration brought all the ugliness of society out into the light and gave voice (and marching orders directly from him) to bigots and racists – hate for the sake of hate.

I cringe thinking about what the next four years will bring us seeing that Mango Mussolini is already gearing up his three-ring circus of freaks and sycophants to destroy our experiment in democracy, the economy, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), immigration, and women’s rights.

Add into this mix the amount of these Republican’ts who mocked the #MeToo movement. We had a (failed) reality tv star as our President, a man who has been recorded degrading women, has paid off strippers and porn stars, and God only knows who else has been hushed.

This is of course aside from those behind the insurrection of January 6, 2021, who kept pleading the fifth when testifying before the committees and courts.

When Mark Twain said the truth is stranger than fiction, I wondered if he could see into the future of this era.

I refuse to believe the majority of Americans voted this absolute-fucktard-orange-turd-convicted-felon in for another term – but that’s for another post.

What. The. Actual. Fuck?!

We are better than this!

It’s the stodgy old cunt-servatives rotting in Congressional and Senate seats who need to go – old white men who have no idea how a woman’s body works yet want to regulate it. They want to drive us headfirst back into the 1950s when women and minorities had no rights.

Guns have more rights in America than women do. It’s time to Smash the Patriarchy!

But I digress.

I am taken back to the early 1980s in my memories when Ronald Reagan became the 40th President of the United States.

I can recall watching with intent and purpose, trying to understand the election process from the Presidential caucuses and primaries to the conventions, choosing of candidates, and voting. I come from a family who are mostly Democrats; my uncle and aunt even served as Presidential delegates for Pennsylvania.

I wanted to know more; I was hungry for knowledge and couldn’t get enough of politics, being only nine years old.

To properly rebel against something, you must first fully understand it.

I had no intentions of rebellion at nine years old, but my knowledge would come in handy during my teen years when I started my “Anarchy for Peace” stance.

I think back to all the music that came out as a result of the 1980s – with the rise of the New Right, Cold War, Reaganomics, Unions, Teamsters, and Air Traffic Controllers crumbling and breaking apart, Iran-Contra Affair, – as kids in the 80s, we thought the world was going to end at any moment in a nuclear disaster.

Hardcore punk bands, like the politically charged Dead Kennedys, who released songs like California Uber Alles and Holiday in Cambodia, zeroed in on the political fears we all secretly had but were afraid to openly admit.

I am looking forward to the second coming of Political Punk.

We saw a tiny resurgence during George W. Bush’s Presidency with Rock Against Bush, but it was a small wave in the ocean.

This can be a long four years, but I am curious to see which musicians rise and make their stances known through their lyrics.

The damage the Orange Menace is doing to this country demands a tsunami.

This is just one of the reasons why I feel this could be an earth-shattering Political Punk revolution.

They cannot silence music, at least not yet. We aren’t living in George Orwell’s 1984, but if we don’t speak up, we could very well be.

Dystopian fiction was meant to be a warning, not a “how-to manual”.

Jello Biafra already threw his hat into the ring in 2016 and stirred the pot with an updated version of the Dead Kennedys classic, Nazi Punks Fuck Off – appropriately named Nazi Trumps Fuck Off.

It’s time for more punk bands to follow his example and start speaking out and up.

The time is right, the soil is fertile, and the conditions are favorable, the time for a revolution is NOW!

We need musical anthems that will inspire and empower us to greater heights – and give us HOPE.

Speak up and be counted. These next four years are crucial to our survival.

The power to dream to rule
To wrestle the world from fools
It’s decreed the people rule
It’s decreed the people rule
I believe everything we dream
Can come to pass through our union
We can turn the world around
We can turn the earth’s revolution
We have the power
People have the power
