Punk Was Never Meant to Make You Comfortable

Punk Was Never Meant to Make You Comfortable

Let’s get something straight right out of the gate… people aren’t “suddenly” coming after punk bands.

MAGAts are.

And they’re big mad that punk artists are doing what punk artists have always done:
calling out authoritarian bullshit.

Newsflash: Punk Is Political. Always Has Been.

The outrage I’m seeing is honestly laughable.

“Why can’t musicians just entertain us?”
“People go to shows to escape.”
“Keep politics out of music.”

Oh, I’m sorry, did you just discover music yesterday?

Because last time I checked, punk wasn’t built on vibes and margaritas. It was built on:

  • calling out power
  • challenging authority
  • defending the marginalized
  • and refusing to shut the hell up when things get ugly

That’s the whole damn point.

This isn’t “jumping on a libtard bandwagon.”
This is punk doing exactly what it was born to do.

You Want Escape? Cool. Go Somewhere Else.

If your idea of a good time is pretending the world isn’t on fire for a couple of hours… then punk shows are not your safe space.

Go ahead. Seriously.

Put on some Jimmy Buffett, grab a blender, and vibe out. No judgment. That’s your lane.

But don’t walk into a punk scene—
a culture literally rooted in resistance—
and then clutch your pearls when someone grabs a mic and calls out fascism.

That’s like going to a protest and being pissed that people are yelling.

Art Is Political. Stop Pretending It’s Not.

This whole “keep politics out of art” take?
It’s not just wrong, it’s willfully ignorant.

Art has always been political.

And the same crowd whining about it now had no problem when their guy was a literal reality TV celebrity turned politician.

So let’s not play dumb.

You don’t hate politics in art.
You hate politics you don’t agree with.

They Came for Everyone… Now They’re Coming for Punk

They’ve already gone after:

  • Bruce Springsteen
  • Paul McCartney
  • Taylor Swift
  • Billie Eilish

And now?

They’re clutching their flags and coming for bands like Dropkick Murphys.

Punk bands.

Let that sink in.

That’s like being shocked that a horror movie is scary, or that metal is loud.

You’ve Clearly Never Been to a Punk Show

Because if you had, you’d know:

  • It’s loud
  • It’s messy
  • It’s unapologetic
  • And yeah—it’s political as hell

Always has been.

So when I see these comments from people acting shocked—SHOCKED—that punk bands are speaking out?

All I can think is:

You’ve never actually been part of this culture.

You just liked the aesthetic.

The Real Punchline

The same people crying about musicians “getting political” are the ones who:

  • worship a celebrity politician
  • ignore actual crimes and corruption, like pedophilia
  • and scream “freedom” while trying to silence dissent

You don’t get to have it both ways.

You don’t get to cheer when your side uses a platform… and then demand silence when someone else does.

Final Thought (Because Apparently This Needs Saying)

Punk isn’t here to comfort you.
It’s not here to help you forget.

It’s here to wake you the fuck up.

So if that makes you uncomfortable?

Good.

That means it’s working. 🤘🏼
