My Way – The Ultimate Punk Rock Cover of a Cover of a Cover

In 1986, one the most iconic punk rock bio pics ever was released – Sid and Nancy. This (so-called morbid) bio pic about John Simon Richie – famously known as Sid Vicious, the bass player for the Sex Pistols – starred a fresh-faced British actor, Gary Oldman in the starring role. The movie revolves around Vicious’ tumultuous and drug infused relationship with his girlfriend Nancy Spungen, played by Chloe Webb. Oldman portrayed Vicious too perfectly, and made viewers feel somewhat sympathetic with the almost childish, bumbling, lost, and gone-too-soon punk icon.     I must…

Love Kills – Sid & Nancy

It was during the glorious summer of 1988 when I saw the movie that remains as one of my favorite movies of all-time.   Sid & Nancy (1986), directed by Alex Cox, was a tortured love story about Sid Vicious of Sex Pistols fame and his groupie and junkie girlfriend, Nancy Spungen. The movie was loosely based on Deborah Spungen’s book “And I Don’t Want to Live This Life”, a biography about her daughter, and Sid’s true love and partner in crime, Nancy. I highly recommend reading Spungeon’s book if you…

This is a new section I am starting, called Mix Tape.  Music is the soundtrack to our lives. When I worked at the strip club, I performed DJ duties for many years. To me, it’s not about just playing music, but conveying a feeling and setting a mood. In these themed posts, I will list at least 13 songs for you to make your very own mix tape (CD) or playlist.  For my first installment, I have an awesome punk/post-punk rock mix playlist of songs about life and love. If there is…

Summer of Anarchy – 1988

If I had to choose a summer from my youth to describe as the best summer ever, hands down it was the summer of 1988.   That summer was the best three months of fun, teenage rebellion, music, and transformation for me; I shaped and formed my future character. I lived every day as if it were my last. It was my “Summer of Anarchy!” and I was a Punk Rock Girl!     The eighties were filled with amazing music, no matter what genre you listened to. My musical tastes…

Euro Punk or Things Aren’t Always What They Seem…

It was a brisk Sunday morning in mid-March; I planned to head to Villa Medici to see the Euro Punk exhibit. I packed my umbrella, as it had called for rain that day; nothing was going to stop me from enjoying every single moment of my time in Rome. I was so excited that this exhibit was on display during my time there, as I am a big fan of punk rock; it was fate. I decided to leave early to visit the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo, since…
