Personal Jesus vs. Line Dancing

Almost 26 years ago, on March 19, 1990, Depeche Mode released one of their most successful albums, Violator. Once I had that album in my hot little hands, it took no time at all to know all the words to every song on my Violator cassette tape. Over the years I bought 3 cassettes, 4 CDs and 1 digital copy of that album – cassettes eventually warped, CDs got borrowed out and never returned, so I finally opted for an iTunes download of Violator. That’s dedication. Their most popular single off that…

Forbidden Fruit: A Lustful Mix

Love and sex makes the world go ’round – it’s a fact of life – and they offer for a lot, if not most, song lyrics.  Love. Lust. Passion. Where would we be without them?  What about kink and corruption? Now we’re talking… What is it about the forbidden fruits that make them so much more sweeter to taste? Black Wednesday, Teenage Punk and the Social Introvert

Long before there was American Horror Story: Coven, my Punk friends in high school and I had a silly little ritual every week – Black Wednesday. A New Wave Punk Rock Christmas!

‘Tis the holiday season. Radio stations and stores have played Christmas and Holiday music since before Thanksgiving. The stores have had their merchandise out since the end of July and sales started earlier this year. This is a happy and joyous time of year. Most people seem a little happier and more willing to help others out.  Excited children can’t wait for Santa to bring them lots of presents – and they are on winter break from school, much to the chagrin of some parents.  For many, this is a very…

Darkwave Battle Royale – Peter Murphy vs. Gary Numan

Friday December 4th, I went out to The Phantasy in Lakewood, OH once again for the latest installment of 9 of Clubs reunion night.  Three great DJ’s spinning a time warp vortex of the best 80’s and 90’s Goth, Industrial, House, New Wave and Darkwave music out there. Lots of Joy Division, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Sisters of Mercy, Thrill Kill Kult, Ministry, Front 242, and more.  It was by far the absolute best reunion night yet with music and attendance. I danced so much, I was sore the next day. Definitely…
