Morticia

Being a teenager who was into punk and goth in the late 1980’s wasn’t as commonplace as it is today. I was labeled a freak, and being that freak teenager under the roof of my Mom-ster was bravery at its finest. Finding my individuality and voice – and keeping it – was important to me; I did all I could to keep it and most of all, my sanity. My style, as my musical taste, was a menagerie of punk rock, post punk, new wave, dark wave and classic alternative. I loved wearing black…

Imaginary Meeting with Mom-ster

Lately I’ve had this urge to stop and see my Mom-ster. I’m really not sure why. I know it’s best to not have any contact with her because she’s so toxic. Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment and I want to continue spiraling down into an even deeper depression than I’ve been in the midst of lately. A Letter to Mom-ster on Mother’s Day

Dear Mom-ster,   Happy second Sunday in May.   I know you hate to be reminded that you are a mother, and despise all holidays, but I thought I’d write you just the same. A Barbie Christmas Story

It’s been said that Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. How can it not be? Everyone is in good spirits; classic Christmas tunes fill the stores as everyone shops for their loved ones. It’s not unheard of to experience a Christmas miracle every now and again. It is a season made for children; seeing the joy on their faces when they open their presents on Christmas morning. Children smiling and laughing anxiously as they wait in line to see Santa so they can tell him all they…

Halloween Magic

(Revised & updated 10/26/14) Halloween has always been my most favorite holiday since I was a child.   I loved going to the stores with my dad and browsing through the Halloween section of costumes and decorations. My favorite candy was, and still is, Brach’s candy corn and the mellowcream pumpkins. The best part was the sugary honey sweetness, I could eat a bag within days just on my own! These days, I eat one pumpkin and a few candy corn and I’m more than satisfied. That sweetness is too…
